Another surprising artistic creation in Rotterdam is the Marathonbeeld (Marathon statue) by Henk Visch. This colorful artwork shows the variety of nationalities participating in the marathon. It is a gift from the local Marathon Foundation and part of the city’s street art scene.
Exactly twenty colors cover the steel statue that has a height of 5.5 meters. The nameplates on the concrete base display names of marathon winners. Since 2001 the Marathon statue stands next to the beautiful Erasmus bridge in Rotterdam. The presence of the statue even adds some color to the overall grey pavement of the bridge.
The artist Henk Visch also made the AUB sculpture in the Museumpark in Rotterdam. Yet the Marathonbeeld is part of the annual Rotterdam marathon route. Here is the location!
